Riseley is a small village in north Bedfordshire, c.13km directly north of Bedford and 14km west of St Neots. The village is laid out in a linear pattern alongside the Riseley Brook, a tributary of the River Great Ouse. The 12th century church is situated on an area of higher ground to the north of the High Street and is today away from the main focus of settlement. Riseley was recorded in the Domesday Book as Riselai to mean ‘brushwood clearing’ and there are 6 separate entries for the village in 1086. The village sits between 50m and 60m OD on both Oxford Clays and Blisworth Limestone to the northwest of the High Street.
